LETHBRIDGE, AB – The U of L Pronghorn men’s golf team put on a strong showing at the first Canada West event of the season.

Lethbridge hosted the event, with the team claiming the top two spots in the individual scoring and first place in the men’s team title by just two strokes over the Calgary Dinos.

The event took place this past Sunday and Monday (Sept. 20 and 21) at the Paradise Canyon Golf Resort. Last year’s U of L invitational was cancelled due to inclement weather.

“We are very proud of the effort our men and women put forth this weekend,” said Pronghorn head coach Dallas Ducheminsky.

Leading after day one with a score of 69, Michael McDougall-Price held off his teammate Noah Huston for a two-stroke win with a finishing round of 75.

In the opening round, Hutson shot a 77, improving to a 69 on Monday to match McDougall-Price for the low round of the tournament. Hutson finished with a two-day total of 146.

“Everyone went out and battled for every stroke they could, and it resulted in earning a team win for the men. Confidence is high heading into our next tournament at Priddis Greens in Calgary next weekend,” Ducheminsky said.

On the women’s side, the Calgary Dinos claimed both the top team and individual honours. Victoria Tse won the event by 18 shots thanks to a 73 and 77.

Vanessa Wilson was the top Pronghorn, finishing fifth with back-to-back rounds of 91.

The U of L team heads to the Priddis Greens Golf and Country Club this Sunday and Monday (Sept. 27 and 28) to play in the Calgary Dinos tournament.
