Zero new COVID cases in South Zone, 143 provincially

LETHBRIDGE, AB – Alberta Health Services has released Wednesday’s report on COVID-19, detailing the numbers over the past 24 hours.

143 cases were confirmed across the province, bringing the total to 17,032. Of those, 1,520 cases are active while 15,252 people have recovered.

Most of the new infections were in the Calgary and Edmonton Zones while none were in the South Health Zone.

Active cases in the region fell from 41 to 38.

Lethbridge only has two active cases, both of which are on the west side.

One person each in the Calgary and North Zones died as a result of the virus, meaning it has claimed the lives of 260 Albertans.

Provincially, 59 patients are currently hospitalized and 13 have been admitted to intensive care units.

The regional breakdown for COVID-19 in Alberta is as follows:

  • Calgary zone – 8,513 cases, 481 active
    • 123 deaths (one new)
    • 32 in hospital, six in ICU
  • Edmonton zone – 4,649 cases, 821 active
    • 70 deaths
    • 21 in hospital, five in ICU
  • South zone – 1,813 cases, 38 active
    • 25 deaths
    • Two in hospital, two in ICU
  • North zone – 1,359 cases, 155 active
    • 35 deaths (one new)
    • Four in hospital
  • Central zone – 659 cases, 20 active
    • Seven deaths
    • None in hospital

The breakdown for the South Health Zone by community is as follows:

  • Brooks – 1,132 cases, six active, nine deaths
  • Lethbridge – 169 cases, two active, two deaths
    • West Lethbridge – 70 cases, two active, one death
    • South Lethbridge – 59 cases, zero active
    • North Lethbridge – 40 cases, zero active, one death
  • Cardston County – 105 cases, two active, five deaths
  • Medicine Hat – 82 cases, 10 active, two deaths
  • County of Warner – 62 cases, zero active, one death
  • Lethbridge County – 46 cases, four active
  • M.D. of Taber – 42 cases, three active
  • County of Forty Mile – 36 cases, 10 active
  • Fort Macleod – 33 cases, zero active, three deaths
  • County of Newell – 32 cases, zero active, two deaths
  • Cypress County – 31 cases, zero active
  • M.D. of Pincher Creek – 27 cases, one active, one death
  • Crowsnest Pass – Two cases, zero active
