Food bank virtual dinner party set for Friday

Sep 24, 2020 | 7:55 AM

LETHBRIDGE, AB – It’s almost time for Feed Lethbridge.

The event is a joint initiative between the Lethbridge Food Bank and Interfaith Food Bank, aimed at supporting local businesses and the overall community.

“Feed Lethbridge is a city-wide virtual dinner party that is happening this year,” said Maral Kiani Tari, executive director of the Lethbridge Food Bank.

As part of the event, residents have ordered meal kits to make their own dinner on Friday night, September 25. The food banks has also offered up free pre-made meals for the initiative.

Additionally, there are items available for auction, with funds helping out the two food banks.

Kiani Tari says one of her favourite features of Feed Lethbridge is the dessert auction.

People can bid on their favourite dessert, which serves a minimum of eight people, and successful bidders will have that dessert delivered directly to their door during the Friday night virtual dinner party.

“We have a lot of local businesses that have donated various desserts and the cool thing about the dessert option is it ends an hour before all the other option items,” she said.

“It ends at 8 p.m. on Friday and myself and a few of my staff will personally deliver the auction item to the winner that night for them to enjoy it fresh.”

A 50/50 is available as well, with Kiani Tari explaining that it will feature a minimum cash prize of $2,000. Tickets for the 50/50 are available until 9:00 p.m. Friday with the draw taking place on October 5.
