CALGARY, AB – The University of Lethbridge Pronghorns golf teams put up valiant efforts but came up short at the recent U of C Invitational.

The opening round for the men on Sunday (Sept. 27) had to be reduced to nine holes due to darkness preventing some golfers from completing their rounds. The SAIT Trojans held a five-stroke lead going into Monday’s final round.

Michael McDougall-Price shot a 73 to lead the Pronghorns, who managed to force a two-team playoff with the University of Calgary Dinos.

In the end, the Dinos won in the playoff with a par from Cian Besler-Chalcroft on the opening playoff hole.

On the individual side, McDougall-Price’s 73 on Monday tied for the low round of the event, combined with a 39 from Sunday’s shortened round, tied with Besler-Chalcroft and SAIT’s Dakota Smith for the individual title.

McDougall-Price was eliminated after the first playoff hole. Smith’s par on the second playoff hole secured him the individual title.

U of L’s Mark Mercier held a one shot lead after day one with a 37 nine-hole score but missed the playoff by a single shot after shooting a 76.

On the women’s side of play, the Pronghorns finished second to the U of C for the second tournament in a row. Vanessa Wilson was the top finisher for the U of L with a 36-hole score of 202.
