COALDALE, AB – RCMP in Coaldale have confirmed a fatal collision on Highway 3.

On October 1, at around 2:30 p.m., RCMP and the Coalhurst Fire Department responded to a single-vehicle collision on Highway 3 in the westbound lanes just east of the Oldman River Bridge at the west end of Lethbridge County.

The preliminary investigation has found that a grey BMW X1 being driven in the westbound lane lost control on the highway and veered into the north ditch, rolling several times.

There were three occupants in the car at the time, according to RCMP.

A 20-year-old female passenger was ejected from the vehicle and sustained fatal injuries at the scene.

The driver and third occupant were taken to Chinook Regional Hospital in Lethbridge with minor injuries.

One westbound lane of Highway 3 was closed while the Coaldale RCMP investigated. Coaldale crews were assisted by a Lethbridge RCMP collision reconstructionist.

Both lanes of the highway were open to traffic shortly after 7:00 p.m.

RCMP say the investigation is ongoing with no further updates anticipated. Mounties added that the family of the deceased are not from the Coaldale or Lethbridge areas and have been notified.

The name of the deceased will not be released.
