Canada West delays decision on sports returning to play

Oct 2, 2020 | 11:39 AM

LETHBRIDGE, AB– Canada West announced Friday that it will delay the decision on commencing play in January of 2021.

Higher-ups will make their decision no later than November 2nd.

The initial deadline for a decision was scheduled for October 8th but the association will have another month.

Following feedback from student-athletes, the conference’s Board of Directors voted earlier this week to delay a decision on second term competition.

This will allow the conference with as much time as they need to make the right choice on returning to play.

The sports that are in question of returning in the second term are:

  • basketball (men’s and women’s)
  • hockey (men’s and women’s)
  • volleyball (men’s and women’s)
  • rugby 7’s (women’s)
  • curling (men’s and women’s)
  • swimming (men’s and women’s)
  • track and field (men’s and women’s)
  • wrestling (men’s and women’s)

The final decision on what the Winter semester sports will look like will be made by November 2nd.
