MD of Taber to receive $13M for flood mitigation projects
EDMONTON, AB. — The Municipal District of Taber is in line for nearly $13 million to improve the Horsefly Regional Emergency Spillway to protect the region against overland flooding.
Officials say upgrades to the Horsefly spillway, from the main canal of the St. Mary River Irrigation District (SMRID) to the Oldman River, are the best way to increase the flood reduction capacity of the regional system.
The project will “protect water and wastewater facilities and transportation and other public infrastructure from repeated damage due to overland flooding,” said Minister of Environment and Parks Jason Nixon.
The flood mitigation project in Taber is one of 10 flood mitigation projects across the province announced today by Nixon, totalling $45 million.
