Record 622 new COVID cases confirmed in Alberta

LETHBRIDGE, AB – Alberta Health Services has released Friday’s report on COVID-19, detailing the numbers over the past 24 hours.

622 cases were confirmed across the province, bringing the total to 27,664. Of those, 5,172 cases are active and 22,169 people have recovered.

That sets a new daily COVID case record for Alberta. The previous record was set this past weekend when 572 positive tests were identified on Saturday, October 24.

Among the new cases, 281 were in the Calgary Zone and 220 in the Edmonton Zone.

In the South Zone, 51 people tested positive including 22 in Lethbridge, 13 in Brooks, seven in Lethbridge County, five in the County of Newell, and two each in Medicine Hat and the County of Forty Mile.

AHS reported five new COVID-19 deaths in the province with four in the Edmonton Zone and one in the Calgary Zone. To date, the virus has claimed the lives of 323 Albertans.

Provincially, 140 patients are currently hospitalized and 25 have been admitted to intensive care units.

1,789,173 tests have been completed among 1,267,318 different people.

The regional breakdown for COVID-19 in Alberta is as follows:

• Calgary zone – 12,257 cases, 2,034 active
  • 144 deaths (one new)
  • 50 in hospital, nine in ICU
• Edmonton zone – 9,924 cases, 2,312 active
  • 107 deaths (four new)
  • 78 in hospital, 10 in ICU
• South zone – 2,379 cases, 276 active
  • 29 deaths
  • Six in hospital, four in ICU
• North zone – 2,015 cases, 353 active
  • 35 deaths
  • Three in hospital, two in ICU
• Central zone – 1,021 cases, 178 active
  • Eight deaths
  • Three in hospital

The breakdown for the South Health Zone by community is as follows:

• Brooks – 1,178 cases (13 new), 36 active, nine deaths
• Lethbridge – 511 cases (22 new), 159 active, four deaths
  • West Lethbridge – 197 cases (14 new), 65 active, one death
  • South Lethbridge – 166 cases (four new), 47 active, two deaths
  • North Lethbridge – 148 cases (four new), 47 active, one death
• Lethbridge County – 140 cases (seven new), 27 active, one death
• Cardston County – 110 cases, six active, five deaths
• Medicine Hat – 95 cases (two new), eight active, two deaths
• County of Warner – 72 cases, six active, one death
• M.D. of Taber – 54 cases, nine active
• County of Forty Mile – 51 cases (two new), eight active
• County of Newell – 49 cases (five new), 11 active, two deaths
• Cypress County – 38 cases, three active
• Fort Macleod – 34 cases, one active, three deaths
• M.D. of Pincher Creek – 27 cases, zero active, two deaths
• Crowsnest Pass – Three cases, one active
