COVID outbreak at St. Catherine School in Picture Butte, one case at Ecole St. Mary

PICTURE BUTTE, AB – The Holy Spirit Catholic School Division has confirmed an outbreak of COVID-19 at St. Catherine School in Picture Butte.

There are now four cases at the school. Per government definition, an ‘outbreak’ is when there are two or more cases in a school setting.

The division also confirmed one positive infection at Ecole St. Mary in Lethbridge.

“For both schools, all close contacts have been informed of the situation and are required to isolate while following the directives provided by Alberta Health Services (AHS),” stated the division.

It was not said whether the cases involved a student or staff members.

“Out of respect for those impacted and in accordance with AHS guidelines, further details about members of the community who may test positive for COVID-19 cannot be disclosed.”

As of November 4, there are ten active cases across three Holy Spirit schools (Ecole St. Mary, St. Catherine and Catholic Central High School), requiring the isolation of around 130 staff and students.
