907 COVID cases confirmed in Alberta Friday

LETHBRIDGE, AB – Alberta Health Services has released Friday’s report on COVID-19, covering statistics compiled over the past 24 hours.

907 cases were confirmed across the province, bringing the total to 37,312. Of those, 8,593 cases are active while 28,321 people have recovered.

That includes another 37 infections in the South Health Zone. Lethbridge and Medicine Hat had the most new cases locally with eight each.

The bulk of all current cases are in the Edmonton and Calgary Zones with those two areas seeing 403 and 337 positive tests today respectively.

Five Albertans died as a result of COVID-19 with four deaths in the Edmonton Zone and one in the Calgary Zone. To date, the virus has claimed the lives of 398.

Provincially, 240 patients are currently hospitalized and 54 have been admitted to intensive care units.

Due to technical issues on the part of AHS, testing data is not available at this time.

Thursday, Premier Jason Kenney announced “new targeted measures” to combat COVID-19 that will be in effect across much of the province over the next two weeks. More details here.

The regional breakdown for COVID-19 in Alberta is as follows:

  • Calgary zone – 16,172 cases, 3,553 active
    • 164 deaths (one new)
    • 78 in hospital, 13 in ICU
  • Edmonton zone – 13,993 cases, 3,572 active
    • 153 deaths (four new)
    • 132 in hospital, 30 in ICU
  • South zone – 2,959 cases, 512 active
    • 32 deaths
    • 15 in hospital, eight in ICU
  • North zone – 2,658 cases, 553 active
    • 40 deaths
    • Eight in hospital, three in ICU
  • Central zone – 1,415 cases, 353 active
    • Nine deaths
    • Seven in hospital

The breakdown for the South Health Zone by community is as follows:

  • Brooks – 1,229 cases (six new), 43 active, 10 deaths
  • Lethbridge – 716 cases (eight new), 174 active, six deaths
    • West Lethbridge – 296 cases (five new), 87 active, two deaths
    • South Lethbridge – 239 cases (three new), 57 active, three deaths
    • North Lethbridge – 181 cases, 30 active, one death
  • Lethbridge County – 238 cases (four new), 89 active, one death
  • Cardston County – 123 cases, 11 active, five deaths
  • Medicine Hat – 135 cases (eight new), 34 active, two deaths
  • M.D. of Taber – 113 cases (two new), 56 active
  • County of Warner – 82 cases, 10 active, one death
  • County of Forty Mile – 79 cases (one new), 28 active
  • County of Newell – 75 cases, 22 active, two deaths
  • Cypress County – 78 cases (seven new), 35 active
  • Fort Macleod – 38 cases (one new), four active, three deaths
  • M.D. of Pincher Creek – 31 cases, four active, two deaths
  • Crowsnest Pass – Three cases, zero active
