LETHBRIDGE, AB – Alberta Health Services has released Monday’s report on COVID-19.

860 cases were confirmed across the province over the last 24 hours, bringing the total to 40,189. Of those, 10,031 cases are active while 29,731 people have recovered.

While AHS reported on provincial COVID numbers throughout the weekend, this is the first time in three days we have had local and regional breakdowns.

In that time, 143 positive tests were identified in the South Health Zone with Lethbridge seeing the most at 41 new cases. This is followed by the M.D. of Taber with 19, Medicine Hat with 17, Lethbridge County with 12, and Cardston County with 11.

Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Deena Hinshaw announced that the COVID-19 outbreak that was first declared at Chinook Regional Hospital in Lethbridge on November 5 was over as of Saturday, November 14.

In the last three days, 29 Albertans have died as a result of COVID-19. In the South Zone, this includes one death each in Brooks, Lethbridge, and the County of Forty Mile.

A spokesperson with AHS told LNN the death in Lethbridge was for a man in his 70’s and that it is linked to the outbreak at the Edith Cavell Care Centre.

Provincially, 264 patients are currently hospitalized and 57 have been admitted to intensive care units.

“These numbers continue to be concerning. While we have spoken of Edmonton’s hospital capacity and surgery cancellations, I want to stress that this is a concern across the province,” says Dr. Hinshaw.

Last week, Premier Jason Kenney announced a set of new “targeted measures” for much of Alberta meant to limit the spread of COVID-19. The temporary restrictions are in effect from November 13-27. More details here.

Dr. Hinshaw gave a shout out to a couple of places of worship that have quickly adapted to these new measures, including the Central Church of Christ for installing plexiglass barriers.
