Westside house fire likely due to smoking materials

LETHBRIDGE, AB – Fire investigators have wrapped up their investigation into a house fire from Monday morning.

At approximately 4:30 am, firefighters were called to a home on the 3000 block of Blackfoot Road West.

Upon the arrival of 22 members from two stations, they found flames coming from the roof and the rear deck.

All occupants were out of the residence and firefighters rescued a dog that was still inside.

It was determined that the fire was accidental and was likely the result of smoking materials being improperly disposed of.

“Lethbridge Fire and Emergency Services would like to remind residents that when extinguishing smoking materials, ensure it is always disposed of properly, in a non-combustible container filled with sand or water,” reads a statement from the City of Lethbridge.

Damages are estimated at $400,000. One person suffered minor injuries.
