LETHBRIDGE, AB – Alberta Health Services has released Wednesday’s report on COVID-19, covering statistics from the past 24 hours.

730 cases were confirmed across the province, bringing the total to 41,692. Of those, 10,057 cases are active while 31,192 people have recovered.

That includes 37 new positive tests in the South Health Zone, 19 of which were in Lethbridge.

10 Albertans died from COVID since yesterday’s update, meaning it has now claimed the lives of 443 Albertans to date.

Provincially, 287 patients are currently hospitalized and 57 have been admitted to intensive care units.

Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Deena Hinshaw laid out how the province’s health system is handling the rise in COVID-19 cases and preparing for it to continue.

She said, however, there are consequences to these measures in delayed access to non-COVID care and there is a ceiling to capacity expansions.

“We need Albertans to do their part. By working together to reduce the spread of COVID-19 in the community, we can reduce the need for hospitalization and demands on our hospitals and emergency departments,” Hinshaw said.
