Record 1,879 COVID cases in Alberta Saturday

LETHBRIDGE, AB – Alberta Health Services has released Saturday’s report on COVID-19, covering statistics from the past 24 hours.

1,879 cases were confirmed across the province, bringing the total to 66,730. Of those, 18,806 cases are active while 47,328 people have recovered.

The latest numbers set a new record for Alberta, breaking the now-previous record of Thursday’s 1,854.

Approximately 83 per cent of the new cases were in the Edmonton and Calgary Zones as they saw 818 and 749 infections respectively.

In the South Zone, 44 positive tests were identified including 19 in Lethbridge.

Since yesterday’s update, six Albertans have died from COVID-19 including four in the Edmonton Zone and one each in the South and Calgary Zones. To date, the virus has claimed 596 lives.

The death in the South Zone was for a person from Medicine Hat.

Provincially, 563 patients are currently hospitalized and 101 have been admitted to intensive care.

The regional breakdown for COVID-19 in Alberta is as follows:

  • Edmonton zone – 27,543 cases, 8,777 active
    • 274 deaths (four new)
    • 299 in hospital, 62 in ICU
  • Calgary zone – 27,020 cases, 6,951 active
    • 207 deaths (one new)
    • 177 in hospital, 27 in ICU
  • North zone – 4,335 cases, 1,035 active
    • 49 deaths
    • 26 in hospital, two active
  • South zone – 4,132 cases, 610 active
    • 48 deaths (one new)
    • 17 in hospital, five in ICU
  • Central zone – 3,446 cases, 1,340 active
    • 18 deaths
    • 44 in hospital, five in ICU

The breakdown for the South Health Zone by community is as follows:

  • Brooks – 1,290 cases (one new), 27 active, 14 deaths
  • Lethbridge – 1,113 cases (19 new), 237 active, seven deaths
    • West Lethbridge – 429 cases (six new), 86 active, two deaths
    • South Lethbridge – 357 cases (four new), 63 active, three deaths
    • North Lethbridge – 327 cases (nine new), 88 active, two deaths
  • Lethbridge County – 350 cases (two new), 61 active, two deaths
  • Medicine Hat – 312 cases (seven new), 94 active, five deaths (one new)
  • M.D. of Taber – 270 cases (seven new), 69 active, four deaths
  • Cardston County – 184 cases (two new), 26 active, six deaths
  • County of Warner – 130 cases (one new), 28 active, two deaths
  • Cypress County – 122 cases (one new), 12 active, zero deaths
  • County of Newell – 113 cases, 17 active, two deaths
  • County of Forty Mile – 112 cases. 17 active, one death
  • Fort Macleod – 49 cases (one new), two active, three deaths
  • M.D. of Pincher Creek – 48 cases (four new), 13 active, two deaths
  • Crowsnest Pass – Seven cases, two active, zero deaths
