Alberta sees 1,836 new COVID cases, 19 deaths Sunday

LETHBRIDGE, AB – Alberta Health Services has released Sunday’s report on COVID-19, covering the statistics from the past 24 hours.

1,836 cases were confirmed across the province, bringing the total to 68,566. Of those, 19,484 cases are active while 48,467 people have recovered.

Approximately 82 percent of the new positive tests were in the Calgary and Edmonton Zones who saw 759 and 753 cases respectively.

Meanwhile, in the South Zone, 62 people contracted the virus including 16 in Lethbridge.

The region now has 642 active cases with Lethbridge making up 241 of that.

Since yesterday’s update, 19 Albertans died from COVID-19 including 13 in the Edmonton Zone, three in the Calgary Zone, two in the North Zone, and one in the Central Zone.

To date, the virus has taken 615 lives.

Provincially, 601 patients are currently hospitalized and 100 have been admitted to intensive care.

With 23,435 tests completed in the last 24 hours, a total of 2,371,092 tests have been done on 1,519,876 different people.

The regional breakdown for COVID-19 in Alberta is as follows:

  • Edmonton zone – 28,296 cases, 8,963 active
    • 287 deaths (13 new)
    • 336 in hospital, 59 in ICU
  • Calgary zone – 27,779 cases, 7,288 active
    • 210 deaths (three new)
    • 178 in hospital, 27 in ICU
  • North zone – 4,478 cases, 1,087 active
    • 51 deaths (two new)
    • 26 in hospital, four in ICU
  • South zone – 4,194 cases, 642 active
    • 48 deaths
    • 15 in hospital, five in ICU
  • Central zone – 3,561 cases, 1,391 active
    • 19 deaths (one new)
    • 46 in hospital, five in ICU

The breakdown for the South Health Zone by community is as follows:

  • Brooks – 1,292 cases (two new), 28 active, 14 deaths
  • Lethbridge – 1,129 cases (16 new), 241 active, seven deaths
    • West Lethbridge – 435 cases (six new), 88 active, two deaths
    • South Lethbridge – 360 cases (three new), 63 active, three deaths
    • North Lethbridge – 334 cases (seven new), 91 active, two deaths
  • Lethbridge County – 357 cases (seven new), 64 active, two deaths
  • Medicine Hat – 318 cases (six new), 94 active, five deaths
  • M.D. of Taber – 277 cases (seven new), 73 active, four deaths
  • Cardston County – 192 cases (eight new), 33 active, six deaths
  • County of Warner – 135 cases (five new), 31 active, two deaths
  • Cypress County – 122 cases (one new), 12 active, zero deaths
  • County of Newell – 115 cases (two new), 19 active, two deaths
  • County of Forty Mile – 112 cases. 17 active, one death
  • M.D. of Pincher Creek – 54 cases (six new), 19 active, two deaths
  • Fort Macleod – 49 cases, two active, three deaths
  • Crowsnest Pass – Eight cases (one new), three active, zero deaths
