Dubious distinction for Alberta – new one day record and highest active rate in Canada

EDMONTON, AB. — Alberta has set another record daily high of new COVID-19 cases.

There are 1,887 new cases of the virus as well as 15 more deaths — raising total fatalities to 734. There are now 81,986 confirmed cases in the province — 21,123 of those cases are active, 716 people are hospitalized and 136 are in ICU.

21,123 cases are active while 60,130 people have recovered.

Alberta still has the highest “rate of active cases”, as well as the most total active cases, of any Canadian province or territory.

The regional breakdown for COVID-19 in Alberta is as follows:

  • Edmonton zone – 35,011 cases, 10,194 active
    • 359 deaths
    • 403 in hospital, 87 in ICU
  • Calgary zone – 32,166 cases, 7,379 active
  • 240 deaths
  • 193 in hospital, 37 in ICU
  • North zone – 5,415 cases, 1,287 active
    • 56 deaths
    • 34 in hospital, four in ICU
  • South zone – 4,549 cases, 583 active, (3,915 recovered cases).
    • 51 deaths
    • 24 in hospital, four in ICU
  • Central zone – 4,624 cases, 1,594 active
    • 26 deaths
    • 62 in hospital, four in ICU

The breakdown for the South Health Zone by community is as follows:

  • Brooks – 1,317 cases (4 new), 32 active, 14 deaths
  • Lethbridge – 1,262 cases (19 new), 227 active, seven deaths
    • West Lethbridge – 476 cases (4 new), 67 active, two deaths
    • South Lethbridge – 388 cases (8 new), 57 active, three deaths
    • North Lethbridge – 398 cases (7 new), 103 active, two deaths
  • Lethbridge County – 394 cases (23 new), 56 active, three deaths
  • Medicine Hat – 376 cases (3 new), 93 active, five deaths
  • M.D. of Taber – 290 cases (1 new), 35 active, five deaths
  • Cardston County – 219 cases (2 new), 46 active, six deaths
  • County of Warner – 138 cases, 11 active, two deaths
  • Cypress County – 132 cases (3 new), 14 active, zero deaths
  • County of Newell – 133 cases (5 new), 16 active, two deaths
  • County of Forty Mile – 112 cases, 3 active, two deaths
  • M.D. of Pincher Creek – 79 cases (2 new), 40 active, two deaths
  • Fort Macleod – 55 cases, 7 active, three deaths
  • Crowsnest Pass – Ten cases (one new), three active, zero deaths
