According to police, he threw the package into the building around 10:15 am on Thursday and fled on a bicycle. He was apprehended shortly afterward.

It was eventually determined that the package was not explosive or hazardous in nature. There is still no word on what the package contained.

There was a prior incident on Wednesday morning where a fire was started in a planter outside the police station around six o’clock. LPS believes the same person was responsible for both incidents.

“The Lethbridge Police Service takes these types of incidents seriously. The safety of our employees and community is our top priority,” said Insp. Jason Walper, Criminal Investigation Division.

“This incident required a collaborative effort from several units of the LPS in order to quickly and efficiently control the location and provide a safe environment. The deployment of our Critical Incident Team and the Lethbridge Fire HAZMAT team allowed us to examine the package and determine the contents of the package did not contain explosive or hazardous material.”

Kyle Glen Lowe of Lethbridge has been charged with arson, mischief, four counts of failing to comply with release conditions, and intimidation of justice.

Lowe was remanded in custody to appear in court today and has not been released from custody.
