461 new COVID cases in Alberta with 20 in Lethbridge

LETHBRIDGE, AB – Alberta Health Services has released Thursday’s report on COVID-19, covering statistics compiled over the past 24 hours.

461 cases were confirmed across the province, bringing the total to 122,821. Of those, 8,041 cases are active while 113,174 people have recovered.

In the South Zone, 32 tested positive including 20 people in Lethbridge.

Active infections across the region fell by 20 but remained flat for Lethbridge.

Since yesterday’s update, seven Albertans died from COVID including three each in the Calgary and Edmonton zones as well as one in the North Zone. To date, the virus has claimed the lives of 1,606.

Provincially, 591 patients are currently hospitalized and 112 have been admitted to intensive care.

With another 12,324 tests conducted over the past day, there has now been a total of 3,142,545 tests completed among 1,746,915 different people.

So far, there have been 102,524 doses of COVID-19 vaccines administered in Alberta as of the end of the day on January 27.

Health Minister Tyler Shandro continued to talk in this afternoon’s COVID-19 update about what he calls Ottawa’s “failure” to procure adequate supplies of vaccines.

Below is a breakdown of cases per health zone:

  • Edmonton Zone – 51,111 cases, 2,764 active
    • 255 in hospital, 42 in ICU
    • 839 deaths (three new)
  • Calgary Zone – 47,097 cases, 3,202 active
    • 191 in hospital, 46 in ICU
    • 504 deaths (three new)
  • North Zone – 9,991 cases, 1,010 active
    • 68 in hospital, eight in ICU
    • 108 deaths (one new)
  • Central Zone – 8,710 cases, 710 active
    • 46 in hospital, seven in ICU
    • 84 deaths
  • South Zone – 5,783 cases, 336 active
    • 31 in hospital, nine in ICU
    • 71 deaths

Below is a breakdown of cases in the South Health Zone:

  • Brooks – 1,361 cases, four active, 14 deaths
  • Lethbridge – 1,675 cases (20 new), 118 active, 12 deaths
    • West Lethbridge – 604 cases (six new), 37 active, two deaths
    • South Lethbridge – 573 cases (six new), 57 active, nine deaths
    • North Lethbridge – 499 cases (eight new), 23 active, one death
  • Medicine Hat – 525 cases (one new), 21 active, 13 deaths
  • Lethbridge County – 510 cases (one new), 28 active, seven deaths
  • Cardston County – 462 cases (eight new), 90 active, six deaths
  • M.D. of Taber – 328 cases, five active, six deaths
  • M.D. of Pincher Creek – 179 cases (two new), 35 active, four deaths
  • County of Warner – 158 cases, six active, two deaths
  • County of Newell – 157 cases, 10 active, two deaths
  • Cypress County – 145 cases, two active, zero deaths
  • County of Forty Mile – 117 cases, one active, two deaths
  • Fort Macleod – 92 cases, 12 active, three deaths
  • Crowsnest Pass – 19 cases, four active, zero deaths
