259 new COVID cases in Alberta, 12 in South Zone

LETHBRIDGE, AB – Alberta Health Services has released Wednesday’s report on COVID-19, covering statistics compiled over the past 24 hours.

259 cases were confirmed across the province, bringing the total to 125,090. Of those, 6,060 cases are active while 116,820 people have recovered.

The provincial positivity rate for today’s numbers is around 3.5 per cent.

In the South Zone, 12 people tested positive with seven of those being in Lethbridge.

This has lead to active infections in the city remaining flat but falling by 10 regionally.

Since yesterday’s update, 11 Albertans died from COVID including five in the Edmonton Zone, three in the Central Zone, two in the Calgary Zone, and one in the South Zone. To date, the virus has claimed the lives of 1,671 people in Alberta.

The death in the South Zone was for a man in his 60’s from South Lethbridge. His death is not linked to any outbreaks.

Provincially, 539 patients are currently hospitalized and 94 have been admitted to intensive care.

With another 6,837 tests being completed over the past day, there has now been a total of 3,195,613 tests conducted on 1,761,155 different people.

109,341 doses of COVID-19 vaccines have been administered across the province as of the end of February 2. This includes approximately 19,000 people who have received the recommended two doses.

Below is a breakdown of cases per health zone:

  • Edmonton Zone – 51,706 cases, 2,147 active
    • 223 in hospital, 35 in ICU
    • 870 deaths (five new)
  • Calgary Zone – 48,070 cases, 2,717 active
    • 177 in hospital, 39 in ICU
    • 521 deaths (two new)
  • North Zone – 10,280 cases, 795 active
    • 57 in hospital, seven in ICU
    • 115 deaths
  • Central Zone – 9,001 cases, 631 active
    • 46 in hospital, five in ICU
    • 92 deaths (three new)
  • South Zone – 5,906 cases, 290 active
    • 36 in hospital, eight in ICU
    • 73 deaths (one new)

  • Brooks – 1,362 cases, one active, 14 deaths
  • Lethbridge – 1,744 cases (seven new), 142 active, 13 deaths (one new)
    • West Lethbridge – 620 cases (three new), 36 active, two deaths
    • South Lethbridge – 602 cases (three new), 64 active, 10 deaths (one new)
    • North Lethbridge – 522 cases (one new), 40 active, one death
  • Medicine Hat – 528 cases, 11 active, 14 deaths
  • Lethbridge County – 515 cases, 21 active, seven deaths
  • Cardston County – 493 cases (three new), 67 active, six deaths
  • M.D. of Taber – 328 cases, zero active, six deaths
  • M.D. of Pincher Creek – 185 cases (one new), 30 active, four deaths
  • County of Warner – 158 cases, three active, two deaths
  • County of Newell – 157 cases, three active, two deaths
  • Cypress County – 145 cases, two active, zero deaths
  • County of Forty Mile – 117 cases, zero active, two deaths
  • Fort Macleod – 93 cases (one new), three active, three deaths
  • Crowsnest Pass – 24 cases, five active, zero deaths
