LETHBRIDGE, AB. — Alberta Health Services has released Thursday’s report on COVID-19. Dr. Deena Hinshaw started her afternoon announcement by pointing out an anomaly.

During the counting of cases on Wednesday, it was discovered that roughly 6000 lab cases were missed and added to today’s totals. Please note, not all of the missed cases are positive. For those cases that are positive, it will make today’s numbers appear to have made a significant jump. However, when the two day totals are averaged out, Alberta’s numbers are holding fairly steady.

582 cases were confirmed across the province, bringing the total to 125,672. Of those, 6,588 cases are active while 117,400 people have recovered.

The provincial positivity rate for today’s numbers is around 3.6 per cent.

In the South Zone, there were an additional 29 Covid cases, with 288 active cases.

Since yesterday’s update, Elven Albertans died from COVID including five in the Edmonton Zone, three in the Central Zone, two in the Calgary Zone, and one in the South Zone, specifically the Cardston area. To date, the virus has claimed the lives of 1,684 people in Alberta.

Provincially, 517 patients are currently hospitalized and 93 are in intensive care.

There has now been a total of 3,213,391 tests conducted on 1,765,546 different people.

Dr.Hinshaw also noted, there are now 68 COVID variant Cases in the province, with the addition of 11 new cases , all of which of the B.1.1.7 variant. At this time, there is no known link from the eleven cases, to a known connection.
