LETHBRIDGE, AB – A man that Lethbridge Police Service (LPS) describes as a “high risk to re-offend” has completed his prison sentence and is being released back into the community.

Jeremy John Emmelkamp, 42, was recently released from the Mountain Federal Institution.

He completed a sentence of four years and one month after being convicted of assault – use of force, uttering threats, disobeying court orders, and two counts of breaching a peace bond.

“Emmelkamp has a history of violent offences against those he is domestically involved with and the Lethbridge Police Service believes he is a high risk to re-offend,” reads a statement from LPS.

He has chosen to reside in the Lethbridge area and will be subject to multiple monitoring conditions.

“The Lethbridge Police Service is issuing this information and warning after careful deliberation of all related issues, including privacy concerns, and is of the belief that it is clearly in the public interest to inform members of the community.”

LPS says the intent of this media release is for public awareness only and is not intended to encourage people to engage in “any form of vigilante action.”

Global News has reported Emmelkamp’s previous offences were committed in Lethbridge, Calgary, Banff, and Nelson, B.C.
