STANDOFF, AB – A 45-year-old Blood Tribe man has been charged following an incident involving multiple police forces this week.

On Wednesday, February 10 at around 8 p.m., Blood Tribe Police were called out to a residence in a rural area of Kainai to “remove an intoxicated man who was no longer welcome”.

On arrival, officers found the man had left the residence and was inside a nearby camper trailer. Two police officers approached the trailer. Looking through a window, one officer witnessed a man load a bolt action rifle and point it towards the door of the trailer, where the other officer was standing and about to knock.

Both officers were able to reposition to safety and evacuate the residents of the home.

The RCMP Emergency Response Team (ERT) and Police Dog Service (PDS) were called in to assist. ERT attended from Calgary with an armoured vehicle and safely took the man into custody at around 3:20 a.m.

Officers seized one rifle and one shotgun.

45-year-old Leon Good Dagger of the Blood Tribe was found to have an outstanding warrant of arrest, according to police. He has been further charged with several firearms offences.

Good Dagger has been remanded in custody and will be in Lethbridge Court on February 21, 2021.
