Artists invited to apply for Lethbridge’s Mural Pilot Project

Feb 19, 2021 | 8:57 AM

LETHBRIDGE, AB – The next phase of the Mural Pilot Project in Lethbridge is underway.

The initiative is a collaboration between the City of Lethbridge Public Art Program and Heart of Our City Committee.

Last year, interested business and facility owners were invited to submit their buildings to have local artists paint murals on their exteriors.

The next phase is opening up a call to artists interested in painting the murals. Lethbridge and area artists, with experience in community-based art, can access application information here.

“Murals help add vibrancy to the community by activating public spaces, promoting community expression, and deterring graffiti vandalism,” read a release from the City of Lethbridge.

“This project will serve as a pilot to inform the potential future development of an established mural program.”

Artists who do not currently live in Lethbridge but have previous ties to the community are welcome to submit. Those selected will be matched with building owners who showed interest in the project during the first phase last year.

The deadline for artists to submit is March 19, 2021. Questions can be directed to the City of Lethbridge Public Art Committee at publicart@lethbridge.ca.
