LETHBRIDGE, AB – The Lethbridge School Division has confirmed two new cases of COVID-19 at Galbraith Elementary in Lethbridge.

As a result, the Medical Officer of Health has started an investigation. The division maintains that the risk to the general population at the school of becoming infected because of these cases is low.

The contact tracing process is underway. Close contacts will be notified by email and instructed to quarantine for at least 14 days. If a parent or guardian is not contacted, then their child is not considered a close contact.

“Our thoughts remain with the individuals that have tested positive, and their families. We wish them a safe and speedy recovery,” said Dr. Cheryl Gilmore, Superintendent of Schools, in a letter posted to the division’s website.

The division could not say if the infected individuals were staff members and/or students.

The custodial staff at the school has been instructed to conduct enhanced cleaning. This cleaning will focus on areas where the individuals were present, along with high-touch areas and surfaces throughout the school.

The school schedule will proceed as normal today, March 9.
