Mar 9, 2021 | 12:14 PM

LETHBRIDGE, AB– For what originally was going to be one trial is now three for Lethbridge man Sohil Bindra, 33.

Six separate complainants came forward about Bindra’s alleged sex-related actions towards them spanning over the last four years.

Bindra’s Defense Attorney, Andre Ouelette, applied for a “severance of counts” to Judge Eric Peterson to “reduce prejudice about the various counts,” says Ouelette.

The six complainants will be divided into three different trials with four in one and the other two complainants receiving their own trial.

Due to a publication ban, we cannot release the complainants’ names, the specific reasons why the defense would like to divide the counts against Bindra, and what was said in the courtroom Monday, March 8, and Tuesday, March 9.

Dates are expected to be set on Friday, March 12, for the various trials.

Bindra remains in custody.

Previous information about Bindra’s charges:

The charges include housebreaking, sexual assault, commit sexual assault, administering a noxious substance, drug possession, choking with intent to commit an indictable offense, and failing to comply with release conditions.
