40 new COVID cases in Lethbridge, 55 across South Zone

LETHBRIDGE, AB – Alberta Health Services has released its update on COVID-19 for Friday, covering statistics compiled over the past 24 hours.

425 cases were confirmed across the province, bringing the total to 137,562. Of those, 4,546 cases are active while 131,081 people have recovered.

In the South Zone, 55 people tested positive including 40 in Lethbridge.

Active infections in the city rose by 21 and by 29 regionally.

Since yesterday’s update, two Albertans died from COVID with one each in the Calgary and Edmonton Zones. To date, 1,935 people have died as a result of the virus.

LNN has reached out to AHS to get updates on 12 outbreaks in the South Zone. When updated figures are available, they will be posted here.

Provincially, 257 patients are currently hospitalized including 38 who have been admitted to intensive care.

With another 9,913 tests conducted over the past day, there has now been a total of 3,512,381 tests completed on 1,848,966 different people.

333,379 doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered across the province as of the end of March 11.

Since yesterday’s report, nine new cases of the U.K. variant of COVID-19 have been detected in the province. To date, 17 variant cases have been confirmed in the South Zone.

Below is a breakdown of cases per regional health zone:

  • Edmonton Zone – 54,744 cases, 1,155 active
    • 81 in hospital, 10 in ICU
    • 984 deaths (one new)
  • Calgary Zone – 52,564 cases, 1,661 active
    • 88 in hospital, 16 in ICU
    • 595 deaths (one new)
  • North Zone – 12,648 cases, 822 active
    • 29 in hospital, two in ICU
    • 141 deaths
  • Central Zone – 10,563 cases, 433 active
    • 27 in hospital, six in ICU
    • 117 deaths
  • South Zone – 6,941 cases, 467 active
    • 32 in hospital, four in ICU
    • 98 deaths

  • Brooks – 1,364 cases, three active, 14 deaths
  • Lethbridge – 2,448 cases (40 new), 356 active, 25 deaths
    • North Lethbridge – 821 cases (16 new), 156 active, four deaths
    • South Lethbridge – 822 cases (20 new), 105 active, 19 deaths
    • West Lethbridge – 805 cases (five new), 96 active, two deaths
  • Cardston County – 660 cases (seven new), 56 active, 13 deaths
  • Medicine Hat – 564 cases (two new), 12 active, 17 deaths
  • Lethbridge County – 560 cases (one new), 16 active, seven deaths
  • M.D. of Taber – 341 cases, four active, six deaths
  • M.D. of Pincher Creek – 221 cases, five active, five deaths
  • County of Warner – 167 cases (four new), five active, three deaths
  • County of Newell – 161 cases, two active, two deaths
  • Cypress County – 146 cases, one active, zero deaths
  • County of Forty Mile – 119 cases, two active, two deaths
  • Fort Macleod – 105 cases, three active, four deaths
