AHS confirms 34 new COVID cases & one death in Lethbridge

LETHBRIDGE, AB – Alberta Health Services has released its update on COVID-19 for Wednesday, covering statistics compiled over the past 24 hours.

479 cases were confirmed across the province, bringing the total to 139,622. Of those, 4,918 cases are active while 132,748 people have recovered.

In the South Zone, 51 people tested positive including 34 in Lethbridge.

Active infections in the city increased by 13 and regionally by 34.

Since yesterday’s update, four Albertans died from COVID including two from the Calgary Zone and one each in the South and North Zones.

The death in the South Zone was for a man in his 60’s from North Lethbridge. His case included comorbidities.

Provincially, 262 patients are currently hospitalized including 44 who have been admitted to intensive care.

With another 10,827 tests conducted over the past day, there has now been a total of 3,553,163 tests completed on 1,860,776 different people.

397,492 doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in Alberta as of the end of March 16.

Starting at 8:00 am on Thursday, March 18, more Albertans will become eligible to book appointments for COVID-19 vaccine. This includes:

  • All Albertans born in 1952-1954 or earlier
  • First Nation, Metis, and Inuit people born in 1967-1969 or earlier

Vaccination appointments can be booked online or by calling Health Link at 811.

Since yesterday’s report, 50 new cases of the U.K. variant of COVID-19 were confirmed in Alberta including two in the South Zone.

Below is a breakdown of cases per regional health zone:

  • Edmonton Zone – 55,186 cases, 1,163 active
    • 86 in hospital, 13 in ICU
    • 994 deaths
  • Calgary Zone – 53,401 cases, 1,887 active
    • 89 in hospital, 16 in ICU
    • 599 deaths (two new)
  • North Zone – 12,938 cases, 774 active
    • 31 in hospital, three in ICU
    • 142 deaths (one new)
  • Central Zone – 10,752 cases, 455 active
    • 28 in hospital, six in ICU
    • 120 deaths
  • South Zone – 7,237 cases, 635 active
    • 28 in hospital, six in ICU
    • 101 deaths (one new)

Below is a breakdown of cases in the South Health Zone:

  • Lethbridge – 2,656 cases (34 new), 469 active, 27 deaths (one new)
    • North Lethbridge – 921 cases (17 new), 210 active, five deaths (one new)
    • South Lethbridge – 882 cases (nine new), 139 active, 19 deaths
    • West Lethbridge – 853 cases (eight new), 121 active, three deaths
  • Brooks – 1,365 cases, two active, 14 deaths
  • Cardston County – 709 cases (nine new), 91 active, 13 deaths
  • Medicine Hat – 568 cases (one new), nine active, 17 deaths
  • Lethbridge County – 564 cases (three new), 16 active, seven deaths
  • M.D. of Taber – 344 cases, five active, six deaths
  • M.D. of Pincher Creek – 234 cases, 17 active, five deaths
  • County of Warner – 176 cases (two new), 14 active, three deaths
  • County of Newell – 160 cases, zero active, two deaths
  • Cypress County – 146 cases, one active, zero deaths
  • County of Forty Mile – 119 cases, one active, three deaths
