CARMANGAY, AB. — It was the meeting place for locals for over a century and the convivial gathering place of the annual “world’s shortest St. Patrick’s Day parade” over three decades.

Information from the Carmangay Historical Society Facebook site indicates a fire that began around 2:00-am Sunday (Mar 28) has left most of the Grange hotel a pile of smoldering ash.

Commenters on the site noted the strong wind played a significant element.

Calls to locals who had watched the fire indicated at least five local fire departments were on site and were able to save surrounding buildings and there were no injuries.

Lethbridge News NOW will follow up on Monday about a possible cause for the fire.
