South Zone sees 62 new COVID cases with 33 in Lethbridge

EDMONTON, AB– Alberta Health Services has released its update on COVID-19 for Tuesday, covering statistics compiled over the past 24 hours.

576 cases were confirmed across the province, bringing the total to 147,461. Of those, 7,975 cases are active while 137,499 people have recovered.

Approximately 58 per cent of today’s new cases were variants.

In the South Zone, 62 people tested positive including 33 in Lethbridge and 15 in Cardston County.

Active infections in Lethbridge rose by four and regionally by 10.

Since yesterday’s update, four Albertans died from COVID with two in the Edmonton Zone and one each in the Calgary and North Zones. To date, 1,987 people have died as a result of the virus.

Provincially, 301 patients are currently hospitalized including 58 who have been admitted to intensive care.

With another 8,078 tests conducted over the past day, there has now been a total of 3,692,606 tests completed among 1,902,001 different people.

620,009 doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in Alberta as of the end of March 29.

Today’s COVID numbers include 332 cases of the various variants including 18 in the South Zone.

Below is a breakdown of cases per regional health zone:

  • Calgary Zone – 57,077 cases, 3,772 active
    • 113 in hospital, 28 in ICU
    • 604 deaths (one new)
  • Edmonton Zone – 56,861 cases, 1,762 active
    • 92 in hospital, 14 in ICU
    • 1,009 deaths (two new)
  • North Zone – 13,863 cases, 906 active
    • 29 in hospital, five in ICU
    • 147 deaths (one new)
  • Central Zone – 11,469 cases, 693 active
    • 33 in hospital, four in ICU
    • 122 deaths
  • South Zone – 8,052 cases, 815 active
    • 34 in hospital, seven in ICU
    • 105 deaths

Below is a breakdown of cases in the South Health Zone:

  • Lethbridge – 3,138 cases (33 new), 491 active, 30 deaths
    • North Lethbridge – 1,121 cases (17 new), 200 active, six deaths
    • West Lethbridge – 1,028 cases (13 new), 175 active, three deaths
    • South Lethbridge – 988 cases (three new), 116 active, 21 deaths
  • Brooks – 1,367 cases, three active, 14 deaths
  • Cardston County – 793 cases (15 new), 65 active, 13 deaths
  • Lethbridge County – 678 cases (five new), 117 active, eight deaths
  • Medicine Hat – 584 cases (five new), 19 active, 17 deaths
  • M.D. of Taber – 396 cases (five new), 51 active, six deaths
  • M.D. of Pincher Creek – 244 cases, 11 active, five deaths
  • County of Warner – 179 cases, five active, three deaths
  • County of Newell – 162 cases, two active, two deaths
  • Cypress County – 152 cases (two new), six active, zero deaths
  • Fort Macleod – 134 cases (two new), 24 active, four deaths
