875 new COVID cases in Alberta with 71 in South Zone

EDMONTON, AB– Alberta Health Services has released its update on COVID-19 for Thursday, covering statistics compiled over the past 24 hours.

875 cases were confirmed across the province, bringing the total to 149,207. Of those, 8,653 cases are active while 138,560 people have recovered.

322 were variants, making up approximately 37 per cent of the total.

In the South Zone, 71 people tested positive including 38 in Lethbridge and 12 in Lethbridge County.

Active infections in the city fell by four but rose by 10 regionally.

Since yesterday’s update, four Albertans died from COVID with two in the Edmonton Zone and one each in the Calgary and North Zones. The virus has taken the lives of 1,994 people in Alberta.

Provincially, 292 patients are currently hospitalized including 59 who have been admitted to intensive care.

With another 13,610 tests conducted over the past day, there has now been a total of 3,720,003 tests completed on 1,909,806 different people.

653,010 doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in Alberta as of the end of March 31.

Since yesterday’s report, 322 new variant cases have been confirmed in the province with 17 coming from the South Zone.

Below is a breakdown of cases per regional health zone:

  • Calgary Zone – 57,838 cases, 4,058 active
    • 112 in hospital, 28 in ICU
    • 605 deaths (one new)
  • Edmonton Zone – 57,250 cases, 1,889 active
    • 84 in hospital, 13 in ICU
    • 1,012 deaths (two new)
  • North Zone – 14,123 cases, 1,058 active
    • 31 in hospital, six in ICU
    • 149 deaths (one new)
  • Central Zone – 11,629 cases, 741 active
    • 31 in hospital, four in ICU
    • 122 deaths
  • South Zone – 8,207 cases, 864 active
    • 34 in hospital, eight in ICU
    • 106 deaths

  • Lethbridge – 3,224 cases (38 new), 512 active, 30 deaths
    • North Lethbridge – 1,141 cases (10 new), 195 active, six deaths
    • West Lethbridge – 1,069 cases (15 new), 195 active, three deaths
    • South Lethbridge – 1,014 cases (13 new), 122 active, 21 deaths
  • Brooks – 1,367 cases, three active, 14 deaths
  • Cardston County – 798 cases, 53 active, 14 deaths
  • Lethbridge County – 700 cases (12 new), 132 active, eight deaths
  • Medicine Hat – 594 cases (five new), 28 active, 17 deaths
  • M.D. of Taber – 408 cases (five new), 51 active, six deaths
  • M.D. of Pincher Creek – 246 cases, 13 active, five deaths
  • County of Warner – 181 cases (two new), four active, three deaths
  • County of Newell – 162 cases, two active, two deaths
  • Cypress County – 155 cases (two new), nine active, zero deaths
  • Fort Macleod – 143 cases (six new), 28 active, four deaths
  • County of Forty Mile – 128 cases, seven active, three deaths
  • Crowsnest Pass – 30 cases, two active, zero deaths
