LETHBRIDGE, AB – The University of Lethbridge’s women’s soccer team has a new head coach going into next season.

Macky Singh is the seventh coach in the program’s history. Originally from Malaysia, Singh was most recently the head coach of both the men and women’s teams at Keyano College in Fort McMurray. There, he also served as the Technical Director for the Fort McMurray Youth Soccer Association.

In 2019, Singh helped lead Keyano College to an ACAC Men’s Futsal Championship.

“We are all so excited for Macky to join our Pronghorn Family, his values closely align with ours,” said Pronghorn Athletic Director Neil Langevin, in a release.

“He has considerable experience coaching women’s soccer within Canada and internationally.”

Singh said he’s excited to build and guide the Pronghorns program towards achieving success “on a consistent basis”.

“I am honoured to be given the opportunity to lead the Pronghorn women’s soccer program as their next head coach and look forward to coaching at the U SPORTS level,” he stated.

Before moving to northern Alberta, Singh led the Olds College Broncos men and women’s teams for four years, from 2014 to 2018. And was named the ACAC Men’s Soccer Coach of the Year in 2017.

He started his coaching career in New Zealand and worked his way up to the role of National Technical Director for the New Zealand Universities Council in 1998, where he was also the head coach for the New Zealand Universities Women’s National Team.

He returned to his home country in 2005 and was named the head coach of the Malaysia National Women’s and U19 team. He was also the National Technical Director for the women’s program. His stint in Malaysia was brief and he moved back to New Zealand a few months after, returning to his post as the head coach of the New Zealand Universities Women’s National Team.

In 2007, Singh moved to Canada, first serving as the Regional Technical Director with Soccer New Brunswick. Three years later, he was named the Head Coach of the St. Thomas University women’s soccer team and Soccer New Brunswick’s Provincial Teams Manager.

He officially started with the Pronghorns on April 1.

Singh replaces Ilsa Wong and Jack Reddy, who served as co-coaches from 2018-2020.
