LETHBRIDGE, AB – Neither of Lethbridge’s school divisions will be taking part in a pilot project for the province’s new draft K-6 curriculum.

Superintendent with the Holy Spirit Catholic School Division Ken Sampson says it “will not support the wellbeing and development of our students.”

“Holy Spirit Catholic School Division remains committed to working closely with Alberta Education to the greatest extent possible to provide ongoing constructive feedback during the review process.”

Board Chair Bob Spitzig agrees with Sampson’s assertion.

“Our hope is that the Alberta Government and the Ministry of Education will listen carefully to the insights and feedback that continue to be provided by both staff and families across the province. We need to come together to redevelop this curriculum to ensure that it truly benefits all of our students.”

The new proposed curriculum is certainly proving to be unpopular as 91 per cent of members of the Alberta Teachers Association said they are unhappy with it.

Earlier this month, the Lethbridge School Division also opted out of the province’s pilot.
