Lethbridge Police charge man with property and drug-related offenses

LETHBRIDGE, AB– The Lethbridge Police Service Priority Crimes Unit has laid charges against a man in relation to stolen property connected with several break-ins in southern Alberta.

Police conducted a traffic stop in the 500-block of 23 Street North on April 1, 2021.

Stephen Reidy, 35, of Lethbridge, was ultimately arrested for breach of a release order stemming from a previous charge of break-and-enter to a rural, southern Alberta business.

“Through further investigation and consultation with Gleichen RCMP, Reidy was also charged in relation to an earlier break-in to a rural business near Strathmore, which resulted in theft and damages to property valued at more than $500,000,” the release reads.

Reidy was released from custody shortly after that arrest.

Later in the month, on April 7, Reidy was arrested again on other outstanding warrants. Search warrants were granted for a storage locker, residence, and vehicle all associated to Reidy. Officers seized about $50,000 worth of tools, electronics, copper wire, drugs (including methamphetamine), and other items.

Through further investigation, Priority Crimes Unit members were able to link other property seized to two break-ins at well sites outside Taber.

Lethbridge Police have charged Reidy with:

• six counts of failing to comply with a release order
• four counts of possession of stolen property under $5,000
• one count of possession of stolen property over $5,000
• one count of possession of break-and-enter tools
• two charges of possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine)

Reidy is facing other charges from separate law enforcement agencies in Alberta.
