1,839 new COVID cases in Alberta Wednesday, one new death in Lethbridge

EDMONTON, AB Alberta Health Services has released its update on COVID-19 for Wednesday, covering statistics compiled over the past 24 hours.
1,839 cases were confirmed across the province, bringing the total to 186,679. Of those, 20,938 cases are active while 163,668 people have recovered.
In the South Zone, 105 people tested positive with 29 in Lethbridge, and 26 in Medicine Hat.
Active infections remained relatively flat locally and regionally.
Since yesterday’s update, six Albertans died from COVID including two people from the Central Zone, one in the Calgary Zone, one in the North Zone, and two in the South Zone.
The two deaths in the South Zone were for two men, one in his 80’s and one in his 60’s. AHS is reporting one of the deaths in the South Zone was in Lethbridge.
Provincially, 643 patients are currently hospitalized including 145 who have been admitted to intensive care.
With another 18,976 tests conducted over the past day, there has now been a total of 4,116,949 tests completed on 2,025,719 different people.
1,497,256 doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered as of the end of April 27.

1,058 cases of COVID-19 variants were confirmed in Alberta today with 51 of those coming from the South Zone.

  • Calgary Zone – 74,214 cases, 8,882 active
    • 260 in hospital, 63 in ICU
    • 627 deaths (one new)
  • Edmonton Zone – 67,176 cases, 5,755 active
    • 223 in hospital, 52 in ICU
    • 1,039 deaths
  • North Zone – 19,489 cases, 2,894 active
    • 68 in hospital, 11 in ICU
    • 156 deaths (one new)
  • Central Zone – 15,549 cases, 2,320 active
    • 56 in hospital, eight in ICU
    • 134 deaths (two new)
  • South Zone – 10,175 cases, 1,030 active
    • 36 in hospital, 11 in ICU
    • 117 deaths (two new)

  • Lethbridge – 4,125 cases (29 new), 411 active, 36 deaths
    • West Lethbridge – 1,489 cases (15 new), 166 active, three deaths
    • North Lethbridge – 1,387 cases (six new), 134 active, nine deaths (one new)
    • South Lethbridge – 1,250 cases (eight new), 112 active, 24 deaths
  • Brooks – 1,409 cases, 40 active, 14 deaths
  • Lethbridge County – 951 cases (nine new), 118 active, 11 deaths
  • Cardston County – 886 cases (11 new), 43 active, 15 deaths
  • Medicine Hat – 861 cases (26 new), 170 active, 18 deaths (one new)
  • M.D. of Taber – 483 cases (four new), 37 active, five deaths
  • M.D. of Pincher Creek – 267 cases, six active, five deaths
  • County of Warner – 290 cases (10 new), 70 active, three deaths
