2,048 new COVID-19 cases in Alberta Thursday

EDMONTON, AB– Alberta Health Services has released its update on COVID-19 for Thursday, covering statistics compiled over the past 24 hours.

2,048 cases were confirmed across the province, bringing the total to 188,727. Of those, 21,385 cases are active while 165,267 people have recovered.

In the South Zone, 105 people tested positive with 38 in Lethbridge.

Since yesterday’s update, three Albertans died from COVID including one person in the South Zone.

Provincially, 632 patients are currently hospitalized including 151 who have been admitted to intensive care.

With another 20,582 tests conducted over the past day, there has now been a total of 4,137,568 tests completed on 2,031,388 different people.

1,528,569 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine have been administered as of the end of April 28.

1,329 cases of COVID-19 variants were confirmed in Alberta today with 33 of those coming from the South Zone.

Below is a breakdown of COVID-19 cases over the past 24 hours:

• Calgary Zone – 74,974 cases, 8,882 active
  • 254 in hospital, 62 in ICU
  • 629 deaths (two new)
• Edmonton Zone – 67,753 cases, 5,916 active
  • 224 in hospital, 56 in ICU
  • 1,039 deaths
• North Zone – 19,489 cases, 2,894 active
  • 68 in hospital, 11 in ICU
  • 156 deaths
• Central Zone – 15,825 cases, 2,395 active
  • 55 in hospital, eight in ICU
  • 133 deaths
• South Zone – 10,280 cases, 1,064 active
  • 30 in hospital, nine in ICU
  • 118 deaths (one new)

• Lethbridge – 4,163 cases (38 new), 409 active, 36 deaths
  • West Lethbridge – 1,498 cases (nine new), 147 active, three deaths
  • North Lethbridge – 1,403 cases (16 new), 145 active, nine deaths
  • South Lethbridge – 1,263 cases (13 new), 118 active, 24 deaths
• Brooks – 1,405 cases, 37 active, 14 deaths
• Lethbridge County – 968 cases (17 new), 129 active, 11 deaths
• Cardston County – 890 cases (four new), 46 active, 16 deaths (one new)
• Medicine Hat – 883 cases (21 new), 182 active, 18 deaths
• M.D. of Taber – 488 cases (five new), 39 active, five deaths
• M.D. of Pincher Creek – 268 cases (one new), seven active, five deaths
• County of Warner – 303 cases (13 new), 79 active, three deaths
• Cypress County – 220 cases, 45 active, zero deaths
