30 new COVID cases in Lethbridge, 1,743 provincially

LETHBRIDGE, AB – Alberta Health Services has released its update on COVID-19 for Tuesday, covering statistics compiled over the past 24 hours.

1,743 new cases were reported for the province, bringing the total number of confirmed cases in Alberta to 198,653. There are currently 23,623 active cases.

The South Zone saw 98 new cases with Lethbridge seeing 30 new.

14,728 of those active cases are variants of concern. This means variant cases make up 62 per cent of all active infections in Alberta.

671 people are in Alberta hospitals, with 150 individuals in intensive care (ICU).

Nine new deaths were reported Tuesday, bringing the provincial death toll from the virus to 2,099. AHS says one death came from the South Zone and was a female in her 80’s from the MD of Taber.

As of May 3, 1,668,455 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in Alberta.

On the testing front, 4,223,375 tests have been completed in Alberta, with 2,057,325 people tested in total. On May 3, 14,585 tests were conducted.

The province also saw 876 new variant cases.

  • 246 in hospital, 61 in ICU
  • 639 deaths (four new)
• Edmonton Zone – 69,951 cases, 6,014 active
  • 235 in hospital, 58 in ICU
  • 1,045 deaths (three new)
• North Zone – 21,462 cases, 3,564 active
  • 93 in hospital, 16 in ICU
  • 158 deaths
• Central Zone – 17,108 cases, 2,836 active
  • 62 in hospital, nine in ICU
  • 137 deaths (one new)
• South Zone – 10,823 cases, 1,260 active
  • 35 in hospital, six in ICU
  • 120 deaths (one new)
