100 COVID cases in South Zone with six communities in double digits

LETHBRIDGE, AB – Alberta Health Services has released its update on COVID-19 for Saturday, covering statistics compiled over the past 24 hours.

2,042 cases were confirmed across the province, bringing the total to 207,157. Of those, 25,155 cases are active while 179,894 people have recovered.

In the South Zone, 100 people tested positive with 30 in Lethbridge, 24 in Medicine Hat, 13 in Lethbridge County, 11 in Cardston County, and 10 in the M.D. of Pincher Creek.

Active infections in Lethbridge nudged up slightly but increased by 20 regionally.

Since yesterday’s update, four Albertans died from COVID including two in the Calgary Zone and one each in the Central and North Zones. To date, 2,108 Albertans have died as a result of the virus.

Provincially, 661 patients are currently hospitalized including 148 who have been admitted to intensive care.

With another 18,809 tests conducted over the past day, there has now been a total of 4,301,676 tests completed on 2,080,850 different people.

1,846,554 doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered as of the end of May 7.

Since yesterday’s report, 406 cases of COVID-19 variants were confirmed in the province with 20 of those coming from the South Zone.

  • Calgary Zone – 83,322 cases, 11,178 active
    • 241 in hospital, 57 in ICU
    • 641 deaths (two new)
  • Edmonton Zone – 71,856 cases, 5,900 active
    • 238 in hospital, 57 in ICU
    • 1,045 deaths
  • North Zone – 22,758 cases, 3,780 active
    • 93 in hospital, 18 in ICU
    • 163 deaths (one new)
  • Central Zone – 17,944 cases, 2,917 active
    • 55 in hospital, nine in ICU
    • 139 deaths (one new)
  • South Zone – 11,235 cases, 1,355 active
    • 34 in hospital, seven in ICU
    • 120 deaths

  • Lethbridge – 4,479 cases (30 new), 462 active, 36 deaths
    • West Lethbridge – 1,613 cases (five new), 169 active, three deaths
    • North Lethbridge – 1,515 cases (14 new), 158 active, nine deaths
    • South Lethbridge – 1,350 cases (11 new), 133 active, 24 deaths
  • Brooks – 1,430 cases (two new), 36 active, 14 deaths
  • Lethbridge County – 1,108 cases (13 new), 181 active, 12 deaths
  • Medicine Hat – 1,037 cases (24 new), 237 active, 18 deaths
  • Cardston County – 943 cases (11 new), 74 active, 16 deaths
  • M.D. of Taber – 538 cases (five new), 61 active, six deaths
  • County of Warner – 400 cases (10 new), 130 active, three deaths
  • M.D. of Pincher Creek – 283 cases, 19 active, five deaths
  • Fort Macleod – 282 cases (three new), 84 active, five deaths
