1,449 new COVID cases in Alberta Tuesday

LETHBRIDGE, AB – Alberta Health Services has released its update on COVID-19 for Tuesday, covering statistics compiled over the past 24 hours.

1,449 cases were confirmed across the province, bringing the total to 211,836. Of those, 24,998 cases are active while 184,719 people have recovered.

In the South Zone, 92 people tested positive with 38 of those coming from Lethbridge.

Active infections in the city rose by six but remained flat regionally.

Since yesterday’s update, three Albertans died from COVID including one person from the South Zone. To date, 2,119 Albertans have died as a result of the virus.

The death in the South Zone was for a woman in her 70’s from Cardston County.

Provincially, 705 patients are currently hospitalized including 163 who have been admitted to intensive care.

With another 11,852 tests conducted over the past day, there has now been a total of 4,343,100 tests completed on 2,093,733 different people.

1,947,004 doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in Alberta as of the end of May 10.

256 cases, or about 18 per cent of today’s total, were variants.

Below is a breakdown of cases per health zone:

  • Calgary Zone – 85,682 cases, 11,532 active
    • 249 in hospital, 57 in ICU
    • 643 deaths
  • Edmonton Zone – 72,862 cases, 5,707 active
    • 246 in hospital, 71 in ICU
    • 1,048 deaths
  • North Zone – 23,385 cases, 3,689 active
    • 100 in hospital, 15 in ICU
    • 164 deaths (one new)
  • Central Zone – 18,399 cases, 2,713 active
    • 69 in hospital, nine in ICU
    • 143 deaths (one new)
  • South Zone – 11,460 cases, 1,328 active
    • 41 in hospital, 11 in ICU
    • 121 deaths (one new)

  • Lethbridge – 4,571 cases (38 new), 458 active, 37 deaths
    • West Lethbridge – 1,651 cases (13 new), 171 active, three deaths
    • North Lethbridge – 1,551 cases (16 new), 165 active, 10 deaths
    • South Lethbridge – 1,368 cases (nine new), 123 active, 24 deaths
  • Brooks – 1,441 cases (two new), 41 active, 14 deaths
  • Lethbridge County – 1,138 cases (17 new), 183 active, 11 deaths
  • Medicine Hat – 1,066 cases (nine new), 216 active, 18 deaths
  • Cardston County – 958 cases (seven new), 77 active, 17 deaths (one new)
  • M.D. of Taber – 545 cases (three new), 64 active, six deaths
  • County of Warner – 411 cases (nine new), 121 active, three deaths
  • M.D. of Pincher Creek – 285 cases (two new), 19 active, five deaths
  • Fort Macleod – 294 cases (one new), 80 active, five deaths
  • Cypress County – 244 cases, 20 active, zero deaths
  • County of Newell – 194 cases (two new), 15 active, two deaths
