Provincial COVID numbers making very gradual decline

LETHBRIDGE, AB. — Alberta Health Services has released its update on COVID-19 for Saturday, covering statistics compiled over the past 24 hours.

1,195 cases were confirmed across the province, bringing the total to 217,821. Of those, 22,993 cases are active while 192,688 people have recovered.

386 cases, or about 24 per cent of today’s total, were variants.

In the local area, Lethbridge reported 20 new cases, Medicine Hat had eight and three in Lethbridge County.

Since yesterday’s update, three Albertans died from COVID with two in the Edmonton Zone and one in the North zone. To date, 2,140 people in the province have died as a result of the virus.

Provincially, 686 patients are currently hospitalized including 178 who have been admitted to intensive care.

With another 12,926 tests conducted over the past day, there has now been a total of 4,404,085 tests completed on 2,111,034 different people.

2,144,280 doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in the province as of the end of May 14 and 40.6 per cent of the population have received at least one dose.

Since yesterday’s report, 386 cases of COVID-19 variants were confirmed across Alberta.

Below is a breakdown of cases per health zone:

• Calgary Zone – 88,456 cases, 10,908 active
  • 254 in hospital, 67 in ICU
  • 648 deaths (two new)
• Edmonton Zone – 74,263 cases, 5,140 active
  • 244 in hospital, 74 in ICU
  • 1,056 deaths
• North Zone – 24,298 cases, 3,382 active
  • 89 in hospital, 16 in ICU
  • 166 deaths (one new)
• Central Zone – 19,034 cases, 2,398 active
  • 64 in hospital, 10 in ICU
  • 147 deaths
• South Zone – 11,741 cases, 1,152 active
  • 36 in hospital, 11 in ICU
  • 123 deaths

Below is a breakdown of cases in the South:

• Lethbridge – 4,645 cases (20 new), 377 active, 37 deaths
  • West Lethbridge – 1,682 cases (six new), 148 active, three deaths
  • North Lethbridge – 1,573 cases (eight new), 139 active, 10 deaths
  • South Lethbridge – 1,389 cases (six new), 89 active, 24 deaths
• Brooks – 1,452 cases (four new), 41 active, 15 deaths
• Lethbridge County – 1,194 cases (10 new), 176 active, 11 deaths
• Medicine Hat – 1,128 cases (eight new), 203 active, 18 deaths
• Cardston County – 980 cases (three new), 71 active, 17 deaths
• M.D. of Taber – 551 cases (three new), 50 active, six deaths
• County of Warner – 419 cases (three new), 77 active, three deaths
• M.D. of Pincher Creek – 288 cases, 14 active, five deaths
• Fort Macleod – 301 cases (one new), 61 active, five deaths
• Cypress County – 262 cases (four new), 31 active, zero deaths
• County of Newell – 203 cases (two new), 23 active, two deaths
• County of Forty Mile – 154 cases, (one new) seven active, three deaths
• Crowsnest Pass – 69 cases, 11 active, one death
• Waterton – One case, zero active, zero deaths
