Changes in quarantine rules for vaccinated Albertans, 11 new COVID cases in Lethbridge

LETHBRIDGE, AB — Quarantine rules have been changed for Albertans who have received at least one dose of a COVID vaccine:

  • If you have both doses of a COVID vaccine and are linked to a case, you don’t have to isolate unless you show symptoms.
  • If you have one dose of a COVID vaccine and are linked to a case, the quarantine period has been shortened from 14 days to now 10 days if you don’t show symptoms.

Alberta Health Services has released its update on COVID-19 for Thursday, covering statistics compiled over the past 24 hours.

812 cases were confirmed across the province, bringing the total to 222,279. Of those, 17,675 cases are active while 202,442 people have recovered.

This is the fourth day in a row where fewer than one thousand new infections were identified Alberta-wide.

In the South Zone, 42 people tested positive with 11 in Lethbridge.

Active infections in the city fell by 20 and regionally by 54.

Since yesterday’s update, four Albertans died from COVID with two in the Edmonton Zone and two in the Calgary Zone. To date, 2,162 Albertans have died as a result of the virus.

Provincially, 665 patients are currently hospitalized including 177 who have been admitted to intensive care.

With another 9,038 tests conducted over the past day, there has now been a total of 4,450,645 tests completed on 2,123,437 different people.

2,271,955 doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered as of the end of May 19.

Since yesterday’s report, 193 cases of COVID-19 variants were confirmed in Alberta.

Below is a breakdown of cases per health zone:

  • Calgary Zone – 90,295 cases, 8,132 active
    • 254 in hospital, 73 in ICU
    • 652 deaths (two new)
  • Edmonton Zone – 75,462 cases, 4,195 active
    • 226 in hospital, 65 in ICU
    • 1,065 deaths (two new)
  • North Zone – 25,007 cases, 2,657 active
    • 77 in hospital, 13 in ICU
    • 170 deaths
  • Central Zone – 19,519 cases, 1,814 active
    • 66 in hospital, 15 in ICU
    • 150 deaths
  • South Zone – 11,972 cases, 871 active
    • 42 in hospital, 11 in ICU
    • 125 deaths

  • Lethbridge – 4,703 cases (11 new), 261 active, 37 deaths
    • West Lethbridge – 1,708 cases (five new), 100 active, three deaths
    • North Lethbridge – 1,586 cases (one new), 90 active, 10 deaths
    • South Lethbridge – 1,408 cases (five new), 71 active, 24 deaths
  • Brooks – 1,466 cases (three new), 39 active, 15 deaths
  • Lethbridge County – 1,207 cases (six new), 119 active, 12 deaths
  • Medicine Hat – 1,162 cases (10 new), 152 active, 19 deaths
  • Cardston County – 998 cases, 79 active, 17 deaths
  • M.D. of Taber – 563 cases (one new), 35 active, six deaths
  • County of Warner – 434 cases, 48 active, three deaths
  • M.D. of Pincher Creek – 301 cases (one new), 20 active, five deaths
  • Fort Macleod – 308 cases, 30 active, five deaths
  • Cypress County – 271 cases (four new), 33 active, zero deaths
