513 new COVID cases in Alberta, just 27 in South Zone

LETHBRIDGE, AB – Alberta Health Services has released its update on COVID-19 for Thursday, covering statistics compiled over the past 24 hours.

513 cases were confirmed across the province, bringing the total to 225,937. Of those, 10,017 cases are active while 213,721 people have recovered.

312 cases, or about 61 per cent of today’s total, were variants.

In the South Zone, 27 people tested positive with nine in Lethbridge.

Active infections in the city fell by six and by 45 across the region.

Since yesterday’s update, one person from the Calgary Zone died from COVID, meaning the virus has now claimed the lives of 2,199 Albertans.

Provincially, 538 patients are currently hospitalized including 150 who have been admitted to intensive care.

With another 9,017 tests conducted over the past day, there has now been a total of 4,501,525 tests completed on 2,135,890 different people.

2,615,747 doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered as of the end of May 26.

Since yesterday’s report, 312 cases of COVID-19 variants were confirmed in Alberta with 20 of those coming from the South Zone.

Below is a breakdown of cases per health zone:

  • Calgary Zone – 91,820 cases, 4,150 active
    • 218 in hospital, 57 in ICU
    • 667 deaths (one new)
  • Edmonton Zone – 76,345 cases, 2,616 active
    • 185 in hospital, 61 in ICU
    • 1,074 deaths
  • North Zone – 25,538 cases, 1,511 active
    • 48 in hospital, 13 in ICU
    • 175 deaths
  • Central Zone – 19,979 cases, 1,145 active
    • 53 in hospital, 12 in ICU
    • 154 deaths
  • South Zone – 12,235 cases, 591 active
    • 34 in hospital, seven in ICU
    • 129 deaths

  • Lethbridge – 4,775 cases (nine new), 168 active, 38 deaths
    • West Lethbridge – 1,747 cases (seven new), 78 active, three deaths
    • North Lethbridge – 1,597 cases (one new), 40 active, 11 deaths
    • South Lethbridge – 1,430 cases (one new), 50 active, 24 deaths
  • Brooks – 1,486 cases (one new), 43 active, 15 deaths
  • Lethbridge County – 1,233 cases (five new), 55 active, 12 deaths
  • Medicine Hat – 1,212 cases (four new), 102 active, 21 deaths
  • Cardston County – 1,017 cases, 36 active, 17 deaths
  • M.D. of Taber – 569 cases (one new), 23 active, six deaths
  • County of Warner – 453 cases, 37 active, three deaths
  • M.D. of Pincher Creek – 302 cases, 13 active, five deaths
  • Fort Macleod – 317 cases (one new), 21 active, six deaths
  • Cypress County – 286 cases (two new), 28 active, zero deaths
