AHS confirms 512 new COVID cases, seven deaths in Alberta

LETHBRIDGE, AB – Alberta Health Services has released its update on COVID-19 for Friday, covering statistics compiled over the past 24 hours.

512 cases were confirmed across the province, bringing the total to 226,449. Of those, 8,760 cases are active while 214,996 people have recovered.

331 cases, or about 65 per cent of today’s total, were variants.

In the South Zone, 33 people tested positive with 10 of those coming from Lethbridge.

Active infections in the city fell by nine and by 33 regionally.

Since yesterday’s update, seven Albertans died from COVID including three in the Edmonton Zone, two in the Calgary Zone, and one each in the South and North Zones. To date, the virus has claimed the lives of 2,206 people in Alberta.

The death in the South Zone was for a woman in her 60s from Medicine Hat.

Provincially, 517 patients are currently hospitalized including 147 who have been admitted to intensive care.

2,668,567 doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered as of the end of May 27.

With another 7,703 tests conducted over the past day, there has now been a total of 4,509,265 tests completed on 2,137,729 different people.

Since yesterday’s report, 331 cases of COVID-19 variants were confirmed across the province with 27 of those coming from the South Zone.

Below is a breakdown of cases per health zone:

  • Calgary Zone – 92,029 cases, 3,809 active
    • 205 in hospital, 54 in ICU
    • 669 deaths (two new)
  • Edmonton Zone – 76,478 cases, 2,450 active
    • 176 in hospital, 62 in ICU
    • 1,077 deaths (three new)
  • North Zone – 25,596 cases, 1,392 active
    • 52 in hospital, 12 in ICU
    • 176 deaths (one new)
  • Central Zone – 20,061 cases, 1,066 active
    • 52 in hospital, 12 in ICU
    • 154 deaths
  • South Zone – 12,268 cases, 558 active
    • 32 in hospital, seven in ICU
    • 130 deaths (one new)

  • Lethbridge – 4,785 cases (10 new), 159 active, 38 deaths
    • West Lethbridge – 1,751 cases (four new), 72 active, three deaths
    • North Lethbridge – 1,601 cases (four new), 39 active, 11 deaths
    • South Lethbridge – 1,432 cases (two new), 48 active, 24 deaths
  • Brooks – 1,486 cases, 36 active, 15 deaths
  • Lethbridge County – 1,234 cases (one new), 48 active, 12 deaths
  • Medicine Hat – 1,215 cases (three new), 93 active, 22 deaths (one new)
  • Cardston County – 1,021 cases (four new), 36 active, 17 deaths
  • M.D. of Taber – 570 cases (one new), 20 active, six deaths
  • County of Warner – 455 cases (two new), 36 active, three deaths
  • M.D. of Pincher Creek – 302 cases, 13 active, five deaths
  • Fort Macleod – 317 cases, 19 active, six deaths
  • Cypress County – 292 cases (six new), 30 active, zero deaths
