Pronghorn Women’s Rugby hires new head coach

Jun 9, 2021 | 12:59 PM

LETHBRIDGE, AB – Pronghorn Athletics have announced their new Women’s Rugby Coach for the upcoming USports season.

Graeme Moffat becomes the fourth head coach in the program’s 22-year history.

Moffat will also lead a new initiative within Pronghorn Athletics, designing and implementing a new coaching development program for all Pronghorn coaches.

He will be responsible for providing guidance and strategic leadership in areas of high-performance sport, including sport science, mental performance, and short-term and long-term season planning.

Athletic Director Neil Langevin says Moffat will be a great fit with the program.

“Graeme’s energetic and collaborative personality, his love of all things rugby coaching, and great administration skills will enable him to be a fantastic university varsity rugby coach. The players, the athletic department, the university, and southern Alberta community will benefit from his hiring.”

Langevin stepped down as the women’s rugby program and says Moffat is the perfect coach to step in for him.

“Graeme got his feet wet with the Pronghorn program last year, serving as an assistant coach during a challenging year of starts and stops with training and no competition. He spent three days a week working with the team throughout the fall and will have a seamless transition in leading the program moving forward,” the release says.

“I thoroughly enjoyed my brief spell with the Pronghorns in the fall of 2020. I was impressed with the University and instantly drawn towards the sense of community and culture within the program,” says Moffat.

Since 2017, Moffat has been serving as the Executive Director of Rugby Alberta and was previously the Director of Rugby for Rugby Alberta.

“Having witnessed how hard Neil and the staff are working, I look forward to following their lead and working collaboratively with them,” added Moffat.

“I am extremely grateful for the opportunity to coach at the University whilst supporting the talented group of coaches within Pronghorn Athletics.”

This upcoming Pronghorn season has been approved by Canada West to continue play in Fall 2021.

The official schedule will be released later in June.
