Lethbridge down to just five active COVID cases, 42 across South Zone

LETHBRIDGE, AB – Alberta Health Services has released Monday’s report on COVID-19.

AHS is no longer updating the numbers on weekends, so this article will cover numbers compiled from Thursday to Sunday.

Effective immediately, LNN will temporarily be doing stories on COVID-19 numbers in Alberta once per week on Mondays unless there is a stat holiday on a Monday. Should things change with the pandemic, we may go back to providing daily updates once again.

Over the past four days, AHS confirmed a combined 209 cases with 81 on Thursday, 64 on Friday, 33 on Saturday, and 31 on Sunday.

Active infections for the province are just 1,261, the lowest number since August 28, 2020. 228,294 people have recovered.

In that time, only one person in the South Zone tested positive.

Active infections in Lethbridge fell to just five and declined by 28 across the region to 42.

Since Thursday’s update, two people from the Calgary Zone died from COVID, meaning 2,295 Albertans have now died as a result of the virus.

Provincially, 179 patients are currently hospitalized including 39 who have been admitted to intensive care.

4,198,463 doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in Alberta as of the end of June 27.

An average of 5,558 tests were conducted each day over the past four days.

Below is a breakdown of cases per health zone in Alberta:

  • Calgary Zone – 94,423 cases, 682 active
    • 86 in hospital, 16 in ICU
    • 701 deaths (two new)
  • Edmonton Zone – 77,678 cases, 195 active
    • 46 in hospital, 15 in ICU
    • 1,102 deaths
  • North Zone – 26,479 cases, 201 active
    • 20 in hospital, three in ICU
    • 193 deaths
  • Central Zone – 20,770 cases, 137 active
    • 19 in hospital, four in ICU
    • 166 deaths
  • South Zone – 12,488 cases, 42 active
    • Eight in hospital, one in ICU
    • 133 deaths

Below is a breakdown of cases in the South Health Zone:

  • Lethbridge – 4,835 cases (one new), five active, 39 deaths
    • West Lethbridge – 1,772 cases (one new), three active, four deaths
    • North Lethbridge – 1,610 cases, zero active, 11 deaths
    • South Lethbridge – 1,452 cases, two active, 24 deaths
  • Brooks – 1,503 cases, three active, 15 deaths
  • Medicine Hat – 1,263 cases, eight active, 22 deaths
  • Lethbridge County – 1,262 cases, eight active, 12 deaths
  • Cardston County – 1,026 cases, two active, 18 deaths
  • M.D. of Taber – 571 cases, zero active, six deaths
  • County of Warner – 470 cases, five active, three deaths
  • Fort Macleod – 322 cases, two active, six deaths
  • M.D. of Pincher Creek – 318 cases, four active, five deaths
  • Cypress County – 301 cases, one active, one death
  • County of Newell – 241 cases, one active, two deaths
  • County of Forty Mile – 157 cases, zero active, three deaths
  • Crowsnest Pass – 86 cases, three active, one death
