12 new COVID cases in South Zone over past seven days

LETHBRIDGE, AB – Alberta Health Services has released Monday’s report on COVID-19.

For the time being, LNN is only reporting COVID numbers once per week each Monday, so today’s article will cover statistics compiled over that time.

In the last three days, AHS reported an average of 46 new cases per day, bringing the total to 232,236. Of that, 831 cases are active while 229,102 people have recovered.

In the South Zone, 12 people tested positive over the last week – an average of 1.7 per day.

Lethbridge saw five new cases in that time, meaning active cases in the city remain at six and fell regionally to just 25.

Seven Albertans died from COVID over the past week with four in the Central Zone and one each in the Calgary, Edmonton, and North Zones. To date, 2,303 people in Alberta have died as a result of the virus.

Provincially, 136 patients are currently hospitalized including 32 who have been admitted to intensive care.

4,578,868 doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered as of the end of July 4. 73.4% of Albertans aged 12 or older have received at least one dose while 48.4 per cent are fully immunized.

Below is a breakdown of cases per health zone in Alberta:

  • Calgary Zone – 94,590 cases, 424 active
    • 65 in hospital, 15 in ICU
    • 702 deaths (one new)
  • Edmonton Zone – 77,749 cases, 132 active
    • 32 in hospital, 13 in ICU
    • 1,103 deaths (one new)
  • North Zone – 26,562 cases, 149 active
    • 15 in hospital, two in ICU
    • 195 deaths (one new)
  • Central Zone – 20,825 cases, 100 active
    • 19 in hospital, two in ICU
    • 170 deaths (four new)
  • South Zone – 12,500 cases, 25 active
    • Five in hospital, one in ICU
    • 133 deaths

Below is a breakdown of cases in the South Health Zone:

  • Lethbridge – 4,840 cases (five new), six active, 39 deaths
    • West Lethbridge – 1,775 cases (three new), three active, four deaths
    • North Lethbridge – 1,612 cases (two new), two active, 11 deaths
    • South Lethbridge – 1,452 cases, one active, 24 deaths
  • Brooks – 1,503 cases, one active, 15 deaths
  • Medicine Hat – 1,263 cases, five active, 22 deaths
  • Lethbridge County – 1,262 cases, three active, 12 deaths
  • Cardston County – 1,026 cases, zero active, 18 deaths
  • M.D. of Taber – 572 cases (one new), one active, six deaths
  • County of Warner – 468 cases, zero active, three deaths
  • Fort Macleod – 321 cases, one active, six deaths
  • M.D. of Pincher Creek – 322 cases (four new), one active, five deaths
  • Cypress County – 301 cases, zero active, one death
  • County of Newell – 244 cases (three new), three active, two deaths
  • County of Forty Mile – 157 cases, zero active, three deaths
  • Crowsnest Pass – 86 cases, three active, one death
