LETHBRIDGE, AB – A Calgary man has been charged by Lethbridge Police in connection to a string of stolen vehicles and licence plates.

Eric Christopher Smith, 25, was arrested by LPS on Tuesday, July 13, 2021, in the area of Stafford Drive and 3 Avenue South.

The arrest was made after police observed a vehicle in West Lethbridge bearing a licence plate reported stolen out of Calgary.

Police say charges were laid in connection with the stolen licence plate, as well as an incident on July 2, 2021, in which a vehicle was used to ram into a garage bay door at a car dealership in the 2300-block of 5 Avenue North.

Once inside the dealership, a suspect stole a 2021 truck valued at $68,000.

β€œThe vehicle used in the break-in had been stolen hours earlier from a northside home. That vehicle was recovered in the area. The stolen truck was also recovered later in West Lethbridge, and was bearing a stolen licence plate,” the release reads.

Smith has been charged with: commercial break-and-renter, three counts of possession of stolen property under $5,000, and operation of a motor vehicle while prohibited.

He remains in custody while awaiting a Judicial Interim Release hearing.
