CALGARY, AB – Alberta Health says 71 cases of COVID-19 were likely acquired at the Calgary Stampede, where hundreds of thousands attended the 10-day rodeo and festival.

Government officials say so far the event isn’t a significant driver in rising infections in the province.

Alberta has 1,173 active cases, with just over 60 per cent in the Calgary Zone.

Doctor Jia Hu, a physician who advised the Stampede, says the cases acquired at the event represent less than 10 per cent of the province’s new infections.

However, it is unclear if additional community spread occurred from those infected.
