Fort Macleod crews respond to possible chemical exposure at local campground

FORT MACLEOD, AB – It was a troublesome situation at a southern Alberta campground last weekend.
Fort Macleod RCMP, along with Fire and EMS, responded to the Fish & Game campground on Sunday, July 25 at around 11:20 p.m. Crews were notified of several people who were having trouble breathing.
Ambulances from Alberta Health Services, the Blood Tribe, Pincher Creek and Picture Butte attended as well to assess and transport patients who were suffering from respiratory issues.
RCMP noted that about six people were assessed and three were taken to local hospitals. The preliminary investigation found that there may have been a chemical leak from “an unknown source”. The Fort Macleod Fire Department attended the scene to search for a source to the possible chemical leak. No contaminants were found in the campground and surrounding area.
