Lethbridge-Medicine Hat’s jobless sees another drop in July

LETHBRIDGE, AB – Once again, the unemployment rate for the Lethbridge-Medicine Hat region went down.

Last month, the rate was 4.4 per cent. That’s an impressive drop from the 5.7 per cent listed by Statistics Canada in June. You can see the figures here.

Alberta’s jobless rate was 8.5 per cent in July, down from the jump to 9.3 per cent seen in June.

Below is the unemployment rate for each economic region in Alberta, with the rate for June in parenthesis.

  • Red Deer: 10.2 per cent (10.2)
  • Edmonton: 9.0 per cent (9.7)
  • Calgary: 9.7 per cent (9.1)
  • Banff-Jasper-Rocky Mountain House-Athabasca-Grande Prairie-Peace River: 8.2 per cent (8.9)
  • Wood Buffalo-Cold Lake: 6.2 per cent (6.6)
  • Camrose-Drumheller: 7.2 per cent (6.5)
  • Lethbridge-Medicine Hat: 4.4 per cent (5.7)

Nationally, Statistics Canada says the economy added 94,000 jobs in July.

The country’s unemployment rate was 7.5 per cent for the month, a slight drop from 7.8 per cent in June. According to the agency, employment is down 246,400 jobs, or 1.3 per cent from pre-pandemic levels in February 2020.
