LETHBRIDGE, AB – Alberta Health Services has released Monday’s report on COVID-19.

For the time being, LNN is only reporting COVID numbers once per week, so today’s article will cover statistics compiled over that time.

Over the last six days, AHS reported an average of 332 cases per day, bringing the total to 237,027. Of those, 3,380 cases are active, an increase of more than 1,200 from our last update. 231,319 people have recovered.

In the South Zone, 293 people tested positive during that time, or about 49 each day.

Medicine Hat has seen an explosion of cases recently with 182 over the past six days. Lethbridge saw another 42 cases and Cypress County had 35.

That has lead to active infections across the South Zone doubling from 210 last week to 421 now. Active cases in Medicine Hat have nearly tripled.

We have reached out to AHS for the latest updates on COVID-19 outbreaks in the region.

AHS reported one new COVID death each in the South and Edmonton Zones, meaning 2,328 Albertans have died as a result of the virus.

The death in the South Zone was for a person from Lethbridge County.

Provincially, 129 patients are currently hospitalized, up by 39 from last week, including 26 people who have been admitted to intensive care.
